GAHBA1The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association is looking for volunteers to participate in a Care day this year on October 23rd and 24th with HomeAid Atlanta.  HomeAid Atlanta is a not-for-profit organization who provides transitional housing for the temporarily homeless.  New Life Maternity home is a 2,400 square foot facility that serves up to five, homeless, pregnant teen girls between the ages of 12-17.  It is one of only two maternity homes in Georgia.  Resident teen mothers are able to continue schooling and develop life skills.  The mission of New Life Maternity Home is to provide a nurturing residential care-program for expectant teenage girls that prepare them for productive, independent, meaningful and responsible lives in their communities.  This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and help make a difference in girl’s lives.  If you are available to participate and/or donate materials please e-mail Heather Bonds at hbounds@callnorthwest.com.

Groundbreaking blog_10.10.09Brock Built was recently selected to build the International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) new facility in Atlanta near the historic Vine City/English Ave area.  This facility will be the new home for the IBPO as well as for the local community.  The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 with special guest speakers, Mayoral candidate Lisa Border and Councilman Ivory Young.  The new building is schedule to be complete in six months.

Mistletoe_Market_10.7.09The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.  They have supported many community projects such as the Cobb County Youth Museum, Sheltering Arms Daycare the Center for Children and Young Adults and much more.  Many of their endeavors are accomplished through several profitable fundraisers that support the many projects within the area. 

The Junior League of Cobb-Marietta (JLCM) is putting together a fundraiser to sell tickets to the 19th annual Mistletoe Market being held at the Cobb County Civic-Center October 14-17, 2009.  The Mistletoe Market will have local boutique owners offering the latest trends in apparel, jewelry, children’s clothing and gifts.  This is a great way to get a head start on the upcoming holiday season.  Mistletoe Market is the largest fundraiser that JLCM puts on and proceeds go toward improving the lives of women and children in Cobb County.

Underground 10.3.09The home buyer tax credit is just what the housing market needed to motivate home shoppers to buy now instead of sitting on the fence.  The IRS recently reported that over 1 million people have taken advantage of the incentive.  The credit of up to $8,000 is available to qualifying homebuyers who have never owned a home or have not owned a home in the past three years and home purchase must be completed before December 1, 2009.
