Certified Green Homes Sell Faster and for More of the Asking Price

Certified green homes represented 12.3% of the total new construction market in Atlanta according to the 2nd Quarter 2010 Atlanta Green Home Sales Report. The report’s author, Carson Matthews, says it’s the highest percent of market share for green homes in Atlanta since he began the report in 2008. Green homes sold for 97.1% of asking price in 99 days compared to 92% of asking price for conventional new construction in 110 days on the market. This study looks at detached single family homes that were built 2007 or later and sold as “new construction”. The Green Home Sales Report looks at homes listed between $250,000 and $2,000,000 in Fulton, Dekalb, Cobb and Gwinnett Counties. The green homes have all been certified by a third party Green Building Certification including LEED for Homes, NAHB Green Building Standard, Energy Star and EarthCraft House.
Steve Brock, founder and president of Brock Built Homes, was selected as the 2009 EarthCraft Home Builder of the Year by the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface Energy Institute. Established in 1984, Brock Built Homes has built most of its new homes to EarthCraft standards since April 2007. EarthCraft, created as a collaboration between the GAHBA and Southface, now trains builders and certifies homes in five Southeastern states besides Georgia, including Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama. Since its inception in 1999, EarthCraft Home has certified more than 7,000 sustainably built, energy-efficient homes in metro Atlanta.

The 29th annual OBIE Awards took place this past weekend on November 7th at the Cobb Galleria Centre, and once again BrockBuilt left with not only six new awards but a feeling of success and great accomplishment. The OBIE Awards are the highest honor given in the Atlanta housing industry. They are held by the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.
Brock Built has won many OBIE Awards in the past including Builder of the Year in 2008. They show a timeline of consistent excellence in building and improving their products. Their high standard of quality sets Brock Built apart from other Atlanta home builders, as do their many OBIE awards, which this year include:

Brock Built selected for Excellence in Sustainability Award

Brock Built has been selected to receive the Whirlpool Corporation Excellence in Sustainability award for its sustainable insight in the building community. Brock Built, Atlanta’s largest intown homebuilder teamed up with EarthCraft to build The Green House – a sustainable showcase home designed to educate the public about environmentally friendly living. The home was auctions off with proceeds going to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). The reward recognizes projects that show sustainable building practices as set fourth by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), while featuring sustainable appliances from Whirlpool. Brock Built Celebrates 25 Years

On Sunday, June 7th, 2009 Brock Built celebrated 25 years of building homes with their employees and families. Brock Built hosted a employee family carnival at West Highlands Park. There was fun for all ages! Employess were recognized for up to ten years of service with Brock Built.
Some of the entertainment included tug-of-war, hula hoop contests, dunking booth, horse shoes, and old fashion fair games. Some of the yummy treats that employees and family could snack on included funnel cakes, cotton candy, icecream, hamburgers, hotdogs and much more!

Atlanta’s Screen on the Green
Posted by: | CommentsScreen on the Green is an annual summertime event in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park hosted by local Atlanta television station Peachtree TV. The series consist of classic and up-to-date free movies shown on a large screen outdoors in the park each 
Thursday at sunset for five weeks ending June 25, 2009. Featured movies for 2009 are: Back to the Future, Dreamgirls, Field of Dreams, Home Alone and Ghost Busters. High-back chairs, tents, glass containers, pets, and grills are not allowed. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park. Brock Built Wins National Community Service Award

Brock Built partnered with WSB-TV, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, The Atlanta Housing Authority, The City of Atlanta, neighborhood groups as well as the community in the construction a truly sustainable single family home for charity. The green house ultimately benefits children of all ages by providing funding from the sale of the home to Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) to serve critical pediatric medical care needs of children regardless of the family’s ability to pay.
